Covid 19 is a disease with the power to take one’s breath away. Because of the pandemic we now live in a context where one cannot help but reflecting on the very meaning of breathing. What is it that, actually, makes a human being saying: “I Cannot Breathe”.
It is 2014 and Eric Garner dies following a brutal arrest by a white policeman in New York. He dies crying “I Can't Breathe”. Again, it is 2020, in Minneapolis, and George Floyd whispers his cry “I Can't Breathe” while a white policeman sits with his knee on his neck.
“I Can't Breathe EP” by musician Paolo Tarsi is a tribute to Eric Garner's memory and to all cries to breathe that go unheard. A man who can stop breathing in the middle of the street because of the colour of his skin is not a free man. He needs to breathe as every human being does. The essential, the minimum to live is to breathe.
After his last album “A Perfect Cut in the Vacuum”, the avant pop musician Paolo Tarsi's new EP continues his musical path through 5 tracks featuring ex Soft Machine Percy Jones and jazz saxophonist Bruno Spoerri: co-founder of Brand X together with Phil Collins, already session man for Brian Eno, David Sylvian, Steve Hackett, Suzanne Vega, Kate Bush, Richard Barbieri, the former; played with Irmin Schmidt (Can) and free jazz trombonist Albert Mangelsdorff, the latter.
An encounter of electronic music, fusion, trip hop and visual art also thanks to collaboration with rapper Zona MC, EmilKr, Violres and artist Roberto Rossini.
